Pulp Fiction's Greatest Scene - Saving Mia's Life

I have enjoyed each and every part of this movie. But, I still cant stop wondering about Quentin Tarantino's direction and screenplay. No doubts this is one of the best movies of all times.

Starring in the scene are John Travolta as 'Vincent Vega' and Uma Thurman as 'Mia Wallace', Eric Stoltz as 'Lance' and Rosanna Arquette as 'Jody'.

THE SCENE:

Mia Wallace is the wife of the gang leader, Marcellus Wallace. Vincent Vega works for him. Marcellus asks Vincent to take her to a restaurant. After the dinner, Vincent Vega takes her home. But, she accidentally takes a sniff of the heavy-dose drug and is kncked-off. Scared out of his wits, Vincent takes her to Lance's place. FROM THEN, unravels the best scene of the movie.

This particular scene has received very great response from the audience. The panic let out by John Travolta seems so natural that you see a totally different Travolta on screen. Audience are taken aback after watching the "usually" menacing villain in an entirely-different character role, that lays great emphasis on acting.

The next credit should go to Uma Thurman, you can see her fall like a puppet doll, when Travolta drops her on the ground while arguing with Eric Stoltz. Uma Thurman has shown her best in this movie.

The scene also takes its applause from the co-actors Eric Stotz and Rosanna Arquette. The reluctance, and helplessness they show in their actions and speech make the scene a great success.

• When Lance searches for the Medical Book
• When Jody screams and screams and screams
• When Vincent asks for the marker
• When Jody and Lance argue over the medical book, while Vincent is waiting for giving the adrenalin to Mia
• When they actually give the adrenalin to Mia
• When Mia comes back to life

OOPS... I have described almost the whole scene... Yes, thats how it is... ENJOY it.

Interesting Word Roots

Etymology has always been a very fascinating thing for me.

Though, I wouldnt call myself an "expert" in etymology.

I will present you with some interesting word origins that I have come across.

Juggernaut - an unstoppable crushing force

This word has a very interesting origin. It is derived from the Sanskrit word "Jagannath", one of the many names of the Hindu Lord, Krishna.

The word comes from the famous Chariot procession of the Puri Jaganath Temple in the state of Orissa, India. Very Devout worshippers throw themselves in front of the chariot (see the image) that carries the idols of Lord Jagannath and the chariot moves with great force that it is very difficult to stop them, even with so many people. Hence, the synonym "an unstoppable crushing force"

Tantalizing - teasing or tormenting by showing something that is very desirable

but keeping it out of reach

The word has its origin from Greek mythology. Tantalus, son of King Zeus, was punished in his afterlife for the sins he had committed in the mortal world. The punishment was such that he was made to stand in a river which was flowing right up to his neck, his hands and legs manacled, with a branch full of fruits above his head. Whenever he tried to drink water, the water level receded; and whenever he tried to reach the fruit, the branch started moving upwards. Hence, the synonym.

Kangaroo - an australian marsupial mammal; a mammal which has a pouch in its abdomen to carry its young ones.

The Myth & The Reality:

For ages, the actual meaning for this name was thought to be "I Don't Know" in an Australian tribal language. It was said that when the British landed in Australia, Captain James Cook asked one of the native men, "What is the name of that animal" and it was said he replied "gangaruu" which was supposed to be "I dont Know", as in a reply saying that "I dont know your language". But, very recently linguistics have traced and found that an Australian native language Guugu Yimidhirr, does have the word "gangaruu" refering to the mammal itself.

SO, THE NEXT TIME YOU READ OR HEAR SUCH RUMOUR , just ask them to GO TO HELL !!! :)
